With the passing of my father (80) recently, it has become plain to me that we fall like dominoes. One generation after another and along comes another with its quirks and societal idiosyncrasy's. There is nothing unique to any generation, its all variations on a theme. One thing that doesn't change is the older generation becoming the dirt which the next generation grows their vegetables. ...and so it goes. (Vonnegut reference).

Here is the key to your lack of dissatisfaction: "My dad has the incredible feat of being an elder and having a PhD." You were raised by a man who thinks for himself I am sure. He has found some intellectual satisfaction in the WT thinking. In time it will wain I am sure. He has obviously allowed you to express your feelings and to think. It seems it will work out if he continues to reason on what is really happening in the WT organization. It is crumbling with such silliness its deplorable. Once he sees through the false face of WT he will also question the pseudo-intellectualism of the "the TRUTH". Look into the Australian Royal Commission's investigation into child abuse in the WT. Even a GB member lied during testimony. Don't miss it. Look on YouTube.

JW Funeral Talk Outline
by Phizzy inhi all,.
a friend has a jw funeral coming up and wants some input if possible, so a copy of the latest outline would be invaluable to him when he talks to the elders, another question he and his brother, neither now jw's, wish to give a eulogy, is this allowed ?.

Have it somewhere else and don't use elders. Say whatever the hell you want. Problem solved. Throw the outline OUT. -

God Cannot Lie, But God's Organization Can?
by AmABeliever inin the recently leaked bethel training videos, both speakers state that inappropriate flirting really amounts to lying, as if a person is misrepresenting either his interest or availability to another person romantically.. we are reminded that the bible is very plain in its expressions on lying such as proverbs 12:22 which states it is detestable to god.
so with the example given here, we must have a very high standard in separating what is truthful from what is not.. with that being the case, it shocks me that bethel would produce a video presented to all in attendance at the 2017 regional convention regarding the early 1970's, essentially rewriting history as to what actually happened.. is misrepresenting your past and misleading millions of followers not a much more extreme case of lying from those who claim to reject any form of lying no matter how small, such as flirting?
would anyone like to add more examples to this thread?.

Watchtower Teachings That Don't Make Sense
by Vanderhoven7 inthere are a number of things that don't make sense to me about your religion.
a. blood prohibitions: .
- plasma...when all components of plasma are acceptable to the society.

I always scratched my head when they said, "be careful not to stumble anyone because their blood will be on you" while at the same time telling us that "no one can stumble you if you are righteously inclined" and "they went out because they were not of our sort". How the hell did they get in? Such duplicity.

Does praying really matter? Where is the evidence?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inmatthew 7:7 jesus says: ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
for every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?

Find Family Happiness ... NOT!
by jp1692 inthe other day my wife and i were in sonoma.
we were just walking around enjoying the pleasant afternoon in the quaint, old downtown area when i saw two jw women standing by their “witnessing cart.” .
normally, i just ignore them whenever i see jws standing by a cart, but i gotta admit it: this time it really bugged me because of the title on the cart: find family happiness.

Well, you spoke your heart. It may not have been a reasoned expression but it was authentic. I'm sure they won't give it more than the crazy apostate consideration, but the people around heard it as well. Perhaps that is the saving grace in this situation. The innocent people around may have been adequately forewarned. Don't kick yourself over it JP. I'm sure your rage will find its place and your expressions won't be so volatile in the future.

Why do (did) the majority of the general population see the JWS is a decisive fraud ?
by Finkelstein inthe jws /ibsa have been going door to door now for over 100 years in many lands and countries, with numerous pieces of supporting literature counting in the millions.. you would think after all of the publicizing that the jws faith would have grown leaps and bounds but to date the jws has only 8 million following adherents.. other christian based faiths have grown vastly more but never publicly proselytized their faith to the extent the jws have... my basic concise guess is that they see this organization as a bit of commercialized fraud, orchestrated by a religious publishing house namely the watchtower corporation, trying to get people to purchase and read the wts's literature.. and yes the wts did place a set price on its literature including yearly subscriptions.
was it just too obvious ?.
did the wts not think that many people who they called on were from even bigger and older established christian faiths but didn't say or preach what the wts was preaching in their apparent version of the gospel ?.

Hey Fink, don't over think it. The majority of people have no fixed opinion based on such reasoning. Just look at how JW's are portrayed in popular culture. They are portrayed as kooks, rubes and zealots. No one cares about the money anymore because they don't ask for any. Now the carts are full of free junk. Hell, they don't talk to anyone anymore either. In the movies they were once the butt of jokes as crazy people, remember this?

Eldub that get stuck on a word or phrase!
by DwainBowman ineldub that get stuck on a word!.
over the years i have been around a few, that if a "big" or "unusual" word or phrase is used at the assembly or by a co/do, to stress a point.
then eldub "somebody" will use it at every meeting, if they can find a way to squeeze it into a part or commit.. most of them get over it after a few meetings.

"Brochures" became "bulshures."
"God will sustain" became "God will substain you, all through the pioneer meeting."

The Red Headed League
by dropoffyourkeylee ini am sitting here watching my pioneering wife get service time ‘writing letters’ to not-at-homes.
she has a long list of names and addressees where the jws in field service never got anyone home.
the letter is simply a word for word copy, handwritten on note paper, then sent in the usmail.

I had a cousin mention to me that someone wrote to her. She thought it was nice. They did the same thing last year she said. Then I informed her of how they keep time and that's why someone wrote to her. She responded, "It figures". She wasn't so impressed any longer. Snap!
